Senior Ladies
St. Mary’s senior ladies played Tourlestrane on Sunday morning in Kent park. The ladies needed a result to qualify for the league semi finals and avoid a relegation playoff. Tourlestrane got the better start and were four points up at the first water break. The St. Marys ladies responded with a strong second quarter and entered half time four points up. The third quarter was evenly contested but the Tourlestrane team had a purple patch at the start of the last quarter and with 5 minutes to go they led by 4 points. Mary’s kept going and notched on a couple of frees which left them 2 points down. With time nearly up senior debutant Tara Breheny received the ball in the attacking half and drove at the Tourlestrane defence and finished to the top corner of the net. From the kickout, the final whistle was blown to leave Mary’s top of the league table and qualified for the semi finals. Special mention to Tara Breheny and Rachel Cawley who made their senior debuts.
