Senior men
Congratulations to our senior men who have qualified for the senior championship final, after a thrilling victory over Drumcliffe/Rosses Point. Two second half goals from Michael Munnelly and Scott Lynch put us in the driving seat having trailed by two points at half time, but a late Drumcliffe/Rosses Point fightback brought the game to extra time. Stephen Coen top scored for our side with six points. Extra-time was cagey and although we initially took the lead through two Nathan Rooney points, we trailed by one in added time and showed great resolve to create an opportunity for Jack Teape to take the game to penalties when he converted a long range free – his third of the day. Teape was again the hero in the shootout, saving three of the four penalties he faced, while Nathan Rooney, Jay Cox and Emlyn Mulligan all converted their efforts. The county final will now take place against Tourlestrane on Sunday October 16th – please show your support for the team over the coming weeks and get behind them!
Junior ladies
Hard luck to our junior ladies who were defeated in the championship final on Saturday in Quigibar. The clubs young second adult ladies team were up against it against an experience St. Patrick’s first team. St. Patrick’s started strongly with 3 goals in quick succession, however, the girls defended tirelessly and to their credit never gave up. This is only the juniors second season and they have qualified for the championship final in both seasons. This experience will stand to them in the future and will help bring them success.
Minor boys
Our minor boys will play Drumcliffe/Rosses Point in the ‘A’ Championship Final as part of a double header with the senior mens final. It will be an historic day for the club having our minor and senior boys playing their finals together. Save the date and make sure to come out and support!
Saturday Morning Coaching
Another year of our Saturday Morning Coaching Programme has concluded. A massive thank you to all club coaches and volunteers who turned up weekly to ensure it ran so smoothly. We regularly had well over 100 kids in attendance which meant we required lots of preparation and organisation that couldn’t be achieved without the commitment of so many. A special thanks to Enda Brady and Maggie Heylin who coordinated things particularly well. Keep an eye on Facebook for photos of our final day celebration!
Weekly walks
Weekly walks are back – starting this week at 8pm in St. Mary’s. Come along to Kent Park at 7.45 to meet other community members and decide your route. We will run it for an initial 6 weeks in preparation for our upcoming club fundraiser – stay tuned and spread the word!
Follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to stay up-to-date with all things St. Mary’s.
