Club Notes: 19th September 2022

Senior men

Our senior mens team are through to the championship semi-final as group winners after beating Curry on Sunday afternoon. Despite already having guaranteed top spot in the group, the lads played some entertaining football to finish comfortable winners 1-25 to 0-10. Nathan Rooney top scored with 7 points, while Michael Munnelly added 4 and Jay Cox and Jack Teape notched 3 apiece. The semi-final takes place on October 2nd against Drumcliffe/Rosses Point in what is sure to be a tough challenge.

Senior ladies 

Well done to our senior ladies who defeated Eastern Harps in their final senior championship match on Sunday morning. In a repeat of the intermediate championship final we ground out a 1 point win in a tight battle. Congratulations to team and management who now prepare to represent Sligo in the Connacht intermediate championship.

Junior ladies 

The junior ladies had an entertaining semi final vs Drumcliffe/Rosses Point in Kent Park on Saturday evening. The home team were ahead by 7 points at half time and built on that lead in the second half to win 7-11 to 3-9. This young team are now through to the championship final on October 1st, where they will face league winners and strong championship favourites St Patrick’s.

Minor ladies

Well done to our minor ladies who won the A2 championship vs St. Molaise Gaels in Oxfield on Tuesday evening last. It was a  tight first half and St. Mary’s went in at half time up 1-7 to 2-2 ahead. We had very strong start to the 2nd half with 3 well worked goals in the first 5 minutes, resulting in a strong lead which the girls never relinquished, and played some excellent football in every position to win out on a scoreline of 5-11  to 3-3. U14 girls

A big congratulations to our U14 girls team who were victorious in the ‘A’ championship final on Saturday! A fantastic team display saw them win the U14 ‘A’ Cup final against CT Gaels 4-5 to 1-6 in Scarden this afternoon. Well done to all involved on a terrific result, and captain Anna Breheny accepted the cup on behalf of the team.

Scór

It has come to that time of the year again when we look at and participate in cultural events. St Mary’s GAA have had representation and success at Scór since the foundation of the Club. We ask all members to continue with this commitment and to consider entering in the various disciplines listed hereunder. Please do not hesitate to contact Peter Farrell on 085 1131911 or peterfarrellsligo@gmail.com if you need information and wish to participate in any of the categories .

Scór Chontae Shligigh hold the official launch in Clayton Hotel on Friday 23rd September with music song and dance. Sligo Senior Scór (Scór Sinséar) takes place on 8th October at Ballintogher Community Hall commencing with Scór quiz at 6pm followed by all other competitions at approx 7.30pm. List of Competitions:
