Senior ladies

Commiserations to our ladies team who were narrowly beaten by Boyle in the Connacht LGFA Intermediate Quarter Final on Saturday last. In unbelievably wet conditions, the two teams played out a thoroughly entertaining contest that went right to the wire. After falling behind early on, goals from Michaela Gaffney and Tara Breheny got our side going before a Ruth Monaghan goal meant we went in at the break leading 3-2 to 2-2. The second half was an immense battle with our defence, marshalled by Aoife Connolly, Leah Rooney and captain Aoife Gilroy, holding out strong and Emma Corcoran and Karen Maloney doing well in the middle third. As we entered injury time Boyle finished the strongest to kick three points without reply and scrape victory by two points, 3-4 to 2-9. The entire club are extremely proud of the effort our ladies team put in all year, and the character they showed against a strong Boyle side. A word of thanks to Shane, Sinead and Orla and all who assisted with the team all year, as well as the numerous volunteers who prepared the grounds for the game and assisted with parking and refreshments on the day.

Club Fundraiser – 24 Hour Fun Run

With the year coming to a close we have one more big community event to prepare for in the form of a fundraiser which will raise funds for St. Cecilia’s School, Sligo Cancer Support Centre and club developments. Both of our chosen charities are very important to many people in the club and carry out exemplary work. We are delighted to team up with them both in order to support their efforts. After a successful year for the entire club which saw huge numbers at our Saturday Morning Coaching programme, a new St. Mary’s All Stars programme for kids with additional needs, enhancements to club facilities and successes throughout all age grades, funds will also go towards the continuous development of our club.

The fundraiser takes the form of a 24 hour fun run/walk relay. Teams will run or walk around Mitchell Curley Park for two 1 hour slots over the course of a 24 hour period from 6pm on Friday 11th November to 6pm Saturday 12th November. For 24 hours straight there will constantly be a team running or walking through day, night and any weather elements to raise the funds. We ran a similar event in 2018 which was hugely successful with over 200 participants so we are asking for a big push from all community members to get involved and fund-raise. Teams are currently being built however if you would like to get involved reach out to Glenn Young on 087 951 3232.
